Seminar on “Postcolonial Theory in the Aftermath of Postcolonialism: Reconsidering the Role of English Departments Today.”

"The Department of English at the University of Information Technology and Sciences (UITS) organized a seminar titled “Postcolonial Theory in the Aftermath of Postcolonialism: Reconsidering the Role of English Departments Today.” The seminar was held on Thursday, February 5, 2026, at 3:00 PM in the university’s Ratnagarbha Tahmina Rahman Multipurpose Hall. The Honorable Vice-Chancellor of UITS, Professor Dr. Md. Abu Hasan Bhuiyan, attended the event as the Chief Guest. The keynote speaker was the distinguished thinker, writer, and academician Professor Dr. Salimullah Khan. The seminar was presided over by Dr. Firoz Al Mamun Khan, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences and Head of the Department of English. Special guests included the Honorable Treasurer of UITS, Professor Dr. Siraj Uddin Ahmed, and Dr. Amal Chakrabarti. At the beginning of the program, the university’s respected Registrar, Md. Kamrul Hasan, delivered the welcome speech. Following this, Afsana Afrose Moon, Assistant Professor of the Department of English, presented a brief profile of the keynote speaker. In his keynote presentation, Professor Dr. Salimullah Khan offered an in-depth and analytical discussion on the contemporary relevance of postcolonial theory, its limitations, and how the academic and intellectual roles of English departments can be reimagined in the post-postcolonial era. He highlighted the connections between postcolonial thought and literature, politics, knowledge production, and contemporary academic practices. Faculty members from various departments, students, and invited guests attended the event. During the question-and-answer session, students actively participated and had the opportunity to engage in discussion with the keynote speaker. The seminar was moderated by Mr. Shuvo Das, Assistant Professor of the Department of English and Student Welfare Advisor of the university. In his closing remarks, the session chair, Dr. Firoz Al Mamun Khan, expressed sincere gratitude on behalf of UITS to the Chief Guest and the keynote speaker for their valuable time and insightful contributions. He also thanked the faculty members, students, and organizers for successfully arranging the seminar."
